You probably fell in love with mentalism watching Patrick Jane help the police department in that drama series. Whatever you see Patrick do in the series can be replicated by anyone. However, that doesn’t mean you will end up being an incredible asset to your local police department. With mentalism you can achieve three things;
- Strengthen your memory through heightened observation of your environment.
- Entertain groups of people powerfully and gain their attention.
- Lastly, read people in order to understand them and their feelings.

1. The Triangle Inside The Circle
Ask them to think of a shape, “ask that they think of a shape like a square, but not a square. Usually, people will think of a triangle.
It doesn’t end here.
Ask that they should think of a shape around the first shape. Most time, they will think of a circle. It’s only a circle that can go around a triangle asymmetrically.
Here’s where the trick is; use your hands to trace the shape in the air while asking them to think. You are planting the image in their subconscious.
It’s a subliminal programming technique.
2. Three of Diamonds
Three of Diamonds is all about subconscious perception.
You won’t be actually doing any trick. This is how it works;
Ask that they choose any card from a deck and you’ll do the guessing. While describing what you want them to do, move your hand in front of you like a shape of a diamond.
Your gestures needs to be also be punctuated in groups of three.
Repeat the motion subtly to plant the image in their subconscious.
3. The Red Hammer
This is another amazingly simple mentalist trick that help you wield the influence of a magician (actually you are far from being one).
The trick is an interplay between thought and language. You will be asking series of questions that put idea of what you want in people’s head.
Look at these questions;
- Is 25th December Christmas?
- Hamburgers are made out of what?
- The USSR have which government?
- In Europe, what side of the road do they drive?
- Can Think of a colour and a tool?
The trick is the question about USSR where the flag is red with a sickle and a hammer.
4. Read Mind With Your Fingers
You are about to wow your friends by reading their minds using your fingers. You will need to have another of your friend on your side to play along.
This is what your friend will do, tell them you will ask them to think of a number which you will guess. To let you know the number, they should clench their jaws the number of times that matched the number.
Now, ask any of your other friend to whisper a number between 1 and 10 to the one in the know.
Place your hand on their temple and feel the number of clenching.
Easy one!
